Introduction Aim Definition of terms Management Special Considerations Potential Complications Companion Documents References Evidence Table IntroductionFemoral fractures are often managed using skin traction prior to their definitive surgical management. Some require short term traction ie. 24 hours whereas others require it for a number of weeks ie. 6 weeks. Traction limits movement and reduces the fracture to help decrease pain, spasms and swelling. It aims to restore and maintain straight alignment and length of bone following fractures. AimThis clinical practice guideline aims to ensure that the application and management of skin traction is consistent and that potential complications are identified early and managed correctly. Evidence tableThe Evidence Table for this guideline can be viewed here. Please remember to read the disclaimer. The development of this nursing guideline was coordinated by Kate Glassford, Advance Practice Nurse, Platypus Ward, and approved by the Nursing Clinical Effectiveness Committee. Updated January 2019. Which action would the nurse take to prevent the development of foot drop quizlet?Maintain the patient's foot in dorsiflexion. What action should the nurse take to prevent the development of foot drop in a bedridden patient who remains in a supine position most of the time? Using cushioned boots or splints.
When a resident is positioned supine their legs should be positioned?Legs are positioned in a straight line with knees slightly at approximately 5 degrees to 10 degrees,2 and not touching. Positioning the knees in slight flexion prevents popliteal vein compression and reduces the patient's risk for Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT).
Which nursing intervention would be carried out to prevent a patient from falling when moving from the bed to the stretcher?Which nursing intervention should be carried out to prevent the patient from falling while moving from the bed to the stretcher? Raise the level of bed to the height of the stretcher.
What is the supine position used for?The supine position provides excellent surgical access for intracranial procedures, most otorhinolaryngology procedures, and surgery on the anterior cervical spine. The supine position also is used during cardiac and abdominal surgery, as well as procedures on the lower extremity including hip, knee, ankle, and foot.
