DirectX A Microsoft software development tool that software developers can use to write multimedia applications.

Event Viewer A Windows Utility used to find logs of events which can cause Windows to lock up or hang.
Executive Services A component of the kernel which functions as an group of services that operate in between the user mode subsystems and the HAL.
Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) A component of the kernel which is closest to the hardware, and built in Windows based on the type of CPU installed.
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT (HKCR) A High-Level key that stores information that determines which application is opened when the user double-clicks a file. this process relies on the file's extension to determine which program to load. This data is gathered from the HKLM and HKCU keys.
HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG (HKCC) A High-Level key that contains information that identifies each hardware device installed on the computer.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER (HKCU) A High-Level key that contains data about the current user, built when a user signs in using data kept in the HKU key and the Ntuser.dat file of the current user.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE (HKLM) A High-Level key that is the most important key and contains hardware, software, and security data. It also builds the HARDWARE subkey when the registry is first loaded, based on data collection about the current hardware configuration.
HKEY_USERS (HKU) A High-Level key that contains data about all users and is taken from the DEFAULT hive.
Kernel Responsible for interacting with hardware as the core of the OS.
Kernel Mode Operates with more power than the shell in communicating with hardware devices.
Mirosoft Management Console A Windows Utility used to build you own customized console windows.
Multimonitor Taskbar A Windows 8 option to extend the desktop taskbar across both monitors.
Multiple Monitor Misalignment A problem with either horizontal or vertical alignment where the two monitor boxes in Screen Resolution are not even or staggered so that the mouse pointer does not move straight across from one monitor to the other.

Task Scheduler (taskschd.msc) A Windows Utility in Administrator tools that is used to launch a task or program at a future time, including at startup.
Thread A single task created by a process when requesting resources.
User Mode Operates several subsystems to make up the shell and has only limited access to system information and can access hardware only through other OS services.
